I am very satisfied with the carving knife and bamboo cutting board set and would highly recommend it. This is the first time I have bought a Wustof carving knife and it is far more efficient and sharper than carving knives I have bought in the past. It is a pleasure to carve with it. The cutting board has a very dense smooth surface and is light and easy to use and clean.

Even at $20, this is pretty cheesy. Board is nice, but oddly long and narrow. The knife is junk, which is a little surprising; I've found "emerilware" to be decent quality in the past (low-end, but decent). Definitely a miss.

I was disappointed in the quality of the knife -- thin, flexible blade. And the board is so small that it really is useless to me. There are much better knives at this price point ... including OXO, Victronox and Anolon. Don't let the Wusthof name fool you. Don't let the Emeril name fool you either.



I gave it three stars because the price was right -- $14. Look for it soon at Big Lots.



I returned this item without hesitation.

Not as sturdy as I thought it would be. The handle is lightweight plastic, doesn't feel solid like you think a Wusthof would. Blade is flexible too. The package was labeled sandwich slicer and I can see why. BUT, I did use it for this past Thanksgiving and it was great. Nice feel to it and because it's new, it cut through everything the turkey had to offer. I can see using this to carve ham, roasts, etc. It will become my #1 knife to do those things, so for that, it does what it advertises and does it well.

 "Good Starter Set" 2006-12-10

I own this set of Emerilware and am very pleased with them. Although I have only had them about 6 months, I use them on an almost daily basis and they have held up beautifully. I have fried eggs with no oil at all at times and they refuse to stick to the surface of the pans (but I do recomend still using a small amount of oil.) I have also dripped melted cheese in the pans and it washes right off. I admit that I do follow the manufacture's recomendations of hand washing the pots and pans, but it's no real big deal. About my only complaints about the set are these:



1. You can't use metal utensils in the pots and pans. This is a problem for me because I do a lot of wisking and I had to go out and buy a nylon wisk which does'nt work as well as a metal one. Also I like to use a fork to break up ground beef when cooking it. I have still been doing this but I have noticed that the fry pan is starting to show scars from using a metal fork, but the non-stick surface has yet to show any signs of peeling away. It's still as "non-stick" as the day I bought them.



2. The bottoms of both the skillets have some kind of reddish-brown stains on them that I can't scrub off no matter what I use. But I figure that I'm not cooking food on the bottoms so it's no big deal. It just gives them that "well used" look. LOL



3. The handles are a little narrow, and they tend to get slippery when they get water or grease on them, making them a little difficult to hold when draining off grease or water or just dumping food out of the pans. It's no real problem for me but it might be a major consideration for someone who has weak hands or wrists. (I have solved the problem by using potholders even though the handles generally stay cool when used on the stovetop.)



4. The glass lids are great if you are cooking something which you have to watch, but they are a real bear to keep clean. Although the pans themselves are supposed to be hand washed, the glass lids are dishwasher safe and that is the way I recommend washing them. There is a very narrow gap between the metal bands around the lids and the glass itself that grease has a way of getting into, and is almost impossible to clean out by hand. That is why I recommend washing the lids in a dishwasher. It can steam the grease or whatever, out of that gap.



Other then these few complaints, I would say that this is a great set of cookware.

The two most-often used knives in the kitchen: a chef's knife (8" blade) and a paring knife (3-1/2" blade). The precision forged blade, bolster, and tang are married to the incredibly durable Hostaform-C handle, triple-riveted to the fully-visible tang.
Use the paring knife for paring, peeling, trimming, and dicing fruits and vegetables. The chef's knife is used for cutting, chopping, slicing, and dicing fruits, vegetables, meat, and poultry.
Made in Solingen, Germany, Wüsthof knives offer a harmonious blend of precision cutting performance, integrity of materials, safety, and comfort. The knives are hot-drop forged by hand from a single blank of high carbon no-stain steel, a specially alloyed surgical steel consisting of exacting proportions of carbon, chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium. The blades are perfectly tapered from bolster to tip, and from the back of the blades to the edges, and are honed by hand. Perfect balance is assured by the full extension of the tang through the length of the handle.
